Job summary

Shermco Industries is seeking a Protection & Controls Technician to perform installation, testing, and maintenance of protective relay systems and RTUs in field settings across client sites. The role involves interpretation of electrical diagrams, data reporting, and traveling to locations as needed.

The position requires strong experience with SEL/GE/ABB relays and related telecom equipment, plus the ability to work in outdoors and dynamic environments.

Qualifications

• Ideal candidate will have 5+ years experience in electrical testing with protection and control equipment, RTUs, and telecom in HV utility contexts.
• Experience with transmission and distribution relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Westinghouse).
• Experience with substation RTUs, communication processors, and telecom equipment.

Responsibilities

• Installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment, RTUs, and telecom equipment.
• Functional testing for protection and control circuitry for transmission lines, HV bus, transformer, circuit breakers, feeders, reactors, capacitors.
• Reviewing, documenting, and submitting test reports for client reporting and regulatory purposes.
• Interpretation of one line and three line diagrams and configurations; identify discrepancies.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Technology or Technical school diploma or military experience (Army Prime Power or Navy Nuclear)
