Job summary

Shermco in Denver, CO is seeking a Protection and Controls Technician to install, test, and maintain protective relay equipment and related systems for HV substations.

You will perform RTU upgrades, work with SEL and GE relays, and support field projects at client sites nationwide, with overtime and travel as needed.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in electrical testing, a technical degree or military experience, and familiarity with NERC CIP requirements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in electrical testing focused on protection and control.
• Experience with transmission and distribution relays including SEL, GE, ABB, Westinghouse.
• Substation RTUs, telecom equipment, and related brownfield/greenfield projects.
• Familiar with NERC CIP requirements.
• Ability to scope, schedule, and manage protection and control projects.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relay equipment and related systems.
• Perform functional testing for protection and control circuits on HV assets.
• Upgrade RTU and telecom systems for multiple clients.
• Document test results for client reporting and regulatory purposes.
• Review and interpret wiring diagrams and configurations, noting discrepancies.
• Maintain vehicle and submit time/expense reports accurately.
