Job summary

Turner Construction Company in Chicago is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety professional to train project teams, enforce safety policies, and drive continuous improvement on our construction sites. You will build relationships with subcontractors, review safety programs, and lead pre-construction safety planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field and minimum 2 years of related construction safety experience.
• CHST certification required or within two years of appointment.
• OSHA 30-hour training completed and First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications maintained.
• Familiar with safety/environmental principles and techniques.
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local EH&S regulations.
• Familiar with general construction operations.
• Able to identify safety exposures and propose corrective actions.
• Demonstrates leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Limited travel may be required with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Educate project teams and subcontractors on EH&S programs and enforce safe work practices.
• Promote safe work conditions in line with regulations and owner requirements.
• Build relationships with project teams and subcontractor safety reps.
• Contribute to development of the overall safety program.
• Enforce safety policies and implement corrective actions.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance.
• Attend pre-construction planning meetings and review risk mitigation plans.
• Gather Pre-Task Plans and Job Hazard Analyses for subcontractors.
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings and ensure proper OSHA training and orientation.
• Create safety reports and analyze metrics for improvement.
• Conduct safety meetings and document minutes.
• Maintain log of toolbox talks and provide reports as required.
• Conduct safety audits and coordinate corrective actions.
• Assess training needs and advise subcontractors.
• Aim to reduce Incident Rates and regulatory exposures to zero.
• Administer drug screening per requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
