Job Responsibilities:
Senior Editor, Client News
The Senior Editor for News is an integral member of the editorial team, working with the Editor-in-Chief to deliver an unrivalled news aggregation service for app users.
Responsibilities include:
o Curation of the Client News aggregation app, including issuing breaking news alerts, compiling briefings and conducting deep-dives on topical issues.
o Utilize real-time data to extract insights and guide editorial decision-making and content placement.
o Identify issues relating to impartiality, undue partisanship and fake news, and filter out any content that breaches our editorial standards.
o Guide and supervise curation by junior editors during news shifts to ensure standards are maintained.
o Understand, and be the Client of, the editorial tone of voice for Client News.
o Work with Editor-in-Chief to build and manage shift schedules to ensure clientmless editorial operations across multiple time zones and countries.
o Display a willingness for the 'One Client' approach, with the ability to make valid contributions to, and work cohesively with our British editorial team.
o Develop positive working relationships with content partners and other teams within Client, including giving/receiving feedback.
o Out of hours shift work is essential in this role, as is a willingness to respond to unpredictable breaking news events. Working pattern will include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Qualifications:
• 8-10 years working as a journalist in US newsrooms, with hands-on Newsdesk experience essential.
• Prior experience driving user engagement through content curation preferred.
• Up-to-date legal and compliance knowledge of the US/Canadian news media landscape is essential, with a willingness to upskill on UK media law.
• Strong analytical skills and well versed in the use of data to draw editorial conclusions.
• Proven experience supervising junior editorial colleagues preferred.
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Thrives in past past-paced business environment with the ability to adapt to change.
Education/Experience:
A bachelor's degree in a related field is required. MBA or other related advanced degree preferred.
8-10 years of experience required.
