Base pay range

$55.00/hr - $63.00/hr

Summary

The Senior Editor for News is a key member of the editorial team, working closely with the Editor-in-Chief to deliver a top-tier news aggregation experience for app users. This role requires a strong editorial background, legal awareness, and a passion for delivering accurate, timely, and engaging content. The position is remote, highly prefer candidates in EST Time zone.

Responsibilities

• Curate content for a news aggregation app, including issuing breaking news alerts, compiling briefings, and researching in-depth features on current topics.
• Use real-time data to extract insights and guide editorial decisions and content placement.
• Identify and filter out content that violates editorial standards, including issues of bias, misinformation, or non-compliance.
• Supervise and guide junior editors during shifts to maintain editorial quality.
• Uphold and refine the editorial tone and voice of the platform.
• Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief to manage shift schedules across multiple time zones and regions.
• Foster collaboration with international editorial teams.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with content partners and internal teams, offering and receiving constructive feedback.
• Be available for out-of-hours shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, to respond to breaking news events.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of experience in journalism, with hands-on newsroom and news desk experience in the U.S.
• Experience in content curation and driving user engagement is preferred.
• Strong understanding of U.S. and Canadian media law and compliance; willingness to learn U.K. media law.
• Analytical mindset with experience using data to inform editorial decisions.
• Proven ability to supervise and mentor junior editorial staff.
• Highly detail-oriented with strong multitasking and prioritization skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapting to change.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
• MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

Compensation Range is $55 to $63 per hour
