Emerus Holdings, Inc. is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for night shifts (7pm-7am) on a PRN basis in Texas. The role involves collecting demographics, verifying insurance, and securing payments to maximize hospital reimbursement.

Strong customer service and HIPAA compliance are essential, with bilingual English/Spanish helpful in certain markets. The position requires high school education and healthcare registration experience; familiarity with various insurance plans is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting preferred.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid plans and payors.
• Fluency in English; Spanish proficiency in the El Paso market is a plus.
• Working knowledge of MS Office applications is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA compliance in Admissions settings and handling of Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build quality relationships with patients and payers.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to ensure proper registration and safety.
• Answer phones professionally, record messages and communicate to medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on required forms and consents and ensure accuracy of documentation.
• Enter complete demographic information for accounts to facilitate revenue cycle processes.
• Verify insurance benefits and confirm correct payor and plan in the system.
• Obtain insurance authorizations as required by plans.
• Assist with collections during or after service in a customer-friendly manner.
• Scan registration and clinical documents into the system and maintain medical records.
• Coordinate patient transfers to other hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs; keep visitor/vendor logs current.
