Job summary

Emerus is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for the Night Shift (7pm-7am) on a PRN basis. The role acts as a liaison among patients, payers, and hospital teams to secure demographic data, verify insurance, and maximize reimbursement.

You will handle admissions-related tasks, ensure regulatory compliance, collect out-of-pocket payments, and support revenue cycle operations while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a health care setting.
• Emergency Department registration experience strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid).
• Basic understanding of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service.
• Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
• Fluency in English; Spanish fluency required in the El Paso Market.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA and all regulations in Admissions and Medical Records.
• Provide excellent customer service and build relationships with patients and payers.
• Identify and triage patients upon arrival to the hospital.
• Answer phones professionally and relay messages to the medical staff.
• Obtain signatures on forms and consents and verify demographics.
• Enter complete demographic information to support revenue cycle processing.
• Verify insurance benefits and correct payor/plan entries.
• Obtain required insurance authorizations as applicable.
• Support collections at the time of service in a customer-focused manner.
• Scan registrations and clinical documents into the system.
• Assist with coordinating transfers between hospitals when needed.
• Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians and hospitals.
• Maintain cash drawer and logs; track patient movements and visits.
• Keep visitor/vendor logs and maintain clean work areas.
