Job summary

Heart Hospital of Austin is seeking a PRN Medical Records Specialist to support the HIM Director with HPF/MPF workflows, scanning, indexing, and record reconciliation. The role also serves as the primary contact when the HIM Director or Coordinator is unavailable.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED; hospital records experience is preferred, and state birth certificate processing training may be provided.

Qualifications

• Hospital records management experience preferred
• Experience handling patient health information and medical records imaging preferred
• Certification program for birth certificate processing may be required

Responsibilities

• Retrieves discharged medical records and reconciles them.
• Facilitates retrieval, printing, storage, and archiving of records.
• Assist with physician suspension process by evaluating suspensions and sending notices.
• Prepares records for scanning.
• Scans medical record documents.
• Indexes medical records documentation.
• Performs QA validation that all documents are scanned.
• Completes required state certifications/CE training as applicable.
• Interacts with parents to collect birth information and guide form completion.
• Assists with Acknowledgment of Paternity form.
• Reviews records to obtain birth information.
