Job summary

St. David's Medical Center in Austin, TX seeks a Medical Records Specialist to support the HIM Director with HPF/MPF workflow management, record retrieval, scanning, indexing and birth certificate processing.

This role will retrieve discharged records, manage archival tasks, and ensure documentation is complete and compliant. This position also handles patient birth information, assists with suspensions, and serves as a primary contact when leadership is unavailable, coordinating with care teams

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Hospital or medical office experience preferred.
  • Certification program from the state may be required for birth certificate processing.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves discharged medical records and reconciles them for completeness.
  • Facilitates retrieval/printing of records and archival/document retention.
  • Assists with physician suspension processes and notices.
  • Prepares documents for scanning and scans records.
  • Indexes and performs quality control on medical record documentation.
  • Completes state-mandated certification programs for birth certificate processing.
  • Interacts with parents to collect birth information and complete forms.
  • Works with parents to complete the Acknowledgment of Paternity form as needed.
  • Reviews records and other resources to obtain required birth information.
