Job summary

Jacobs in the United States seeks a Principal Substation Engineer to lead design deliverables for utility upgrades, greenfield/brownfield AIS/GIS substations, and interconnection facilities. You will coordinate with regional and global T&D teams to support clients and operations during energy transition.

You will mentor staff across North America, participate in sales support, and contribute to owner’s engineer activities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of direct Substation design experience with utility or consulting organization.
• Advanced knowledge of High Voltage substation components including GIS and switchgear.
• Experience developing substation designs from conceptual to IFC drawings (G/A, conduits, grounding, BOM).
• Familiarity with grounding/lighting protection design for substations.
• Ability to perform substation calculations and studies (voltage drop, AC/DC).
• Experience with vendor specifications for control houses and switchgear buildings.
• QA/QC of design calculations, drawings, and specs.
• Owner’s representative experience preferred.
• Proven ability to work with CAD tools (Autodesk, Bentley).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Interface with utility/developer clients to develop substation design deliverables.
• Deliver design outcomes for AIS/GIS substations, greenfield/brownfield projects and interconnections.
• Mentor and guide North American and global teams within Jacobs GID.
• Support sales and proposal activities with technical oversight and engineering direction.
