Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Graduate of business school preferred.
• 1-2 years of healthcare experience preferred.
• 1-2 years of extensive customer service experience preferred.
• Experience in scheduling, pre-registration, financial clearance preferred.
• Medical terminology and knowledge of insurance preferred.
• Combination of post-secondary education and experience in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Schedule the correct procedure at the appropriate facility and time; document pre-certification information when scheduling.
• Obtain and document patient demographics, insurance and clinical information; assign payer code.
• Pre-register patients and select proper medical record numbers for safety.
• Complete insurance verification and eligibility checks.
• Calculate patient liabilities and collect payments.
• Process physician orders via fax, EPIC or other methods; verify medical necessity per LCD and ABN requirements.
• Front desk duties: check-in and escort to reception; correct registration errors.
• Demonstrate problem solving in scheduling, registration, and financial clearance.
