Job summary

Toole Design Group in Philadelphia, PA, seeks an experienced transportation professional to lead our integrated transportation engineering and multimodal planning practice. This firmwide leadership role combines practice leadership with active project delivery and can be located in any of our offices.

As Practice Lead, you will mentor engineers and planners, guide business development, shape technical direction, and stay engaged on major projects while reporting to the Engineering Director.

Qualifications

• Desire to lead a practice — not just a project; able to develop the next generation of engineers and planners.
• Strategic thinking for the direction of the practice, pursuing the right work, and positioning the firm for what's next.
• Commitment to technical excellence as a personal standard and to remain a trusted senior voice on complex projects.
• Ability to craft and communicate a vision that bridges planning and engineering.
• 15+ years of success on transportation engineering and multimodal planning projects.
• Proven experience building and leading teams, programs, practices, and projects.
• Experience in business development, proposal strategy, and client development.
• Belief that strong engineering enables quality planning and inclusive streets.
• Commitment to safe, equitable, and sustainable transportation for communities served.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development and practice business planning to support growth targets with regional leadership.
• Support the practice’s financial health through effective project delivery and staff development.
• Collaborate with local, regional, and corporate leadership to advance priorities.
• Recruit and advise on hiring to support growth.
• Advance training, innovation, and quality control to keep technical work at the forefront.
• Support marketing and raise the practice's visibility locally and nationally.
• Guide subject matter resource groups for traffic engineering, multimodal planning, and related specialties.
• Lead major transportation planning and engineering projects as Principal-in-Charge or Project Director.
