Job summary

Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) is offering a 2027 Summer Internship Program for graduate-level students in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems. You will work with Markets & Grid R&D teams to tackle real engineering and market challenges, run simulations, analyze data, and present your findings.

Qualifications

Graduate student pursuing Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
Experience or coursework in power systems, optimization, electricity markets, operations research, or engineering modeling.
Familiarity with Matlab, Python, PSS/E, TSAT, VSAT, or tools like AMPL, AIMMS, Gurobi.
Strong analytical skills and ability to apply math/engineering to real-world grid challenges.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Markets & Grid R&D teams to understand engineering or market challenges.
Run grid or market simulations using engineering and optimization tools to compare approaches.
Analyze historical market/grid data to identify patterns and build actionable recommendations.
Attend intern events and develop professionally while aligning with MISO’s mission.
Deliver a final presentation summarizing project work and impact.
