Job summary

Akamai Technologies is seeking a Platform Operations Engineer II to join its NOCC team in Cambridge, MA. The role focuses on monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining a highly distributed platform for worldwide services, with 24x7 coverage and collaboration across engineering and infrastructure teams.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of experience, UNIX administration skills, and the ability to write SQL queries, along with a security clearance and strong communication abilities.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Experience administering UNIX-based operating systems.
• Experience with fault detection, troubleshooting, ticketing, escalation and related operational processes.
• Ability to write SQL queries and understand TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, and HTTP.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring, troubleshooting, and correcting platform problems via an alert-driven workflow, emails, and phone calls.
• Collaborating with Engineers, System Architects, Infrastructure Vendors, and Customers to isolate problems and improve operational stability.
• Updating and patching system software components and configurations.
• Documenting work performed in the trouble ticketing system for clear communication and learning.
• Developing and maintaining documentation, procedures and tools.
