Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to greet patients, perform phlebotomy procedures, and support specimen collection and processing in a fast-paced lab environment.

The role includes registering samples, using hospital information systems, and assisting with ED and routine lab duties. A HS diploma and driver’s license are required; phlebotomy training is preferred and ASCP certification is a plus. Signing bonus may be available.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Phlebotomy training preferred.
• ASCP certification or eligibility preferred.
• Fluent English communication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and direct them appropriately; perform phlebotomy procedures (blood cultures, EKGs, breath tests, MRSA and COVID swabs).
• Collect blood samples using venipuncture across age groups per protocol.
• Receive, label, prioritize and transport specimens; maintain organized workflow.
• Register courier-delivered specimens; troubleshoot printers as needed.
• Order tests using hospital information systems and test dictionaries; communicate with departments when needed.
• Answer and transfer calls; ensure coverage for incoming calls.
• Provide PPE adherence, shift reports, and routine inventory checks.
