Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to greet patients, perform phlebotomy, and support specimen processing. The role includes computer-based test ordering, telephone support, and maintaining inventory.

The position is non-exempt, daylight hours, with a 40-hour week and rotating weekends as described in the posting. The candidate should have a High School Diploma or equivalent; phlebotomy training and ASCP certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy training and ASCP certification or eligibility.
• Fluent English communication is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients; perform phlebotomy procedures.
• Collect blood samples via venipuncture across age groups.
• Receive, label, and distribute specimens per protocol.
• Register courier-delivered specimens and troubleshoot printers.
• Order tests using hospital information systems and test dictionaries.
• Answer and transfer calls, ensuring coverage at all times.
• Restock supplies and maintain clean, organized work areas.
• Assist with ER support and ensure PPE compliance.
• Demonstrate competency with patient age-specific needs.
