Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Lab Support Tech I to greet patients, perform phlebotomy duties, and support specimen collection and testing in a busy hospital lab.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and fluent English. Experience with hospital information systems is preferred; schedule is Mon–Fri, 8:45am–5:15pm, 40 hours weekly with potential signing bonus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Phlebotomy training is preferred.
• ASCP certification or eligibility is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood samples across all age groups using venipuncture techniques.
• Labels and prioritizes specimens (e.g., STAT, STROKE, CSF) accurately.
• Transports specimens promptly and redistributes them per protocol.
• Maintains a clean and organized drawing station or cart.
• Registers all courier-delivered specimens accurately and efficiently.
• Demonstrates mastery of hospital information systems and orders tests accurately.
• Answers and transfers calls courteously and efficiently.
• Performs heel sticks and PKU collections with proper sample volume.
• Adapts to workflow changes and assists with home draws and secretarial duties.
