Phlebotomist II – Geisinger Multi‑Specialty Clinic, Olive Street, Daily shift (Days)

Job Summary

Provide safe, accurate, and high‑quality blood collection and specimen processing for the Geisinger Medical Laboratories. Ensure compliance with CLIA and laboratory standards while delivering patient‑centered care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures on patients ranging from neonates to adults.
  • Obtain, label, and process blood specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Register patients, facilitate billing, and complete specimen accessioning using the laboratory computer systems.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, explaining procedures and maintaining a comforting demeanor.
  • Evaluate specimen suitability, resolve discrepancies, and refer issues as required.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot point‑of‑care instruments and perform quality‑control activities.
  • Stock and replenish reagents and supplies according to standard protocols.
  • Adhere to reporting and compliance policies, including laboratory safety and infection control.
  • Provide phlebotomy coverage at medical group offices, skilled nursing facilities, and conduct in‑home draws for homebound patients.
  • Pass initial and periodic competency exams and comply with all organizational policies.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; GED accepted.
  • Minimum 1 year of related work experience (e.g., nursing assistant, certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, certified medical assistant) or graduate from Geisinger’s School of Phlebotomy Program.
  • ASCP Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) preferred; ASCP certification required for higher levels.
  • Basic knowledge of CLIA guidelines and specimen collection standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient‑focused approach.
  • Ability to navigate multiple computer applications and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle blood collection equipment.
