Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Phlebotomist to join their Medical Laboratories team. Qualifications

• Phlebotomist I: less than 1 year of experience.
• Phlebotomist II: 1–2 years of experience or completion of Geisinger’s School of Phlebotomy Program.
• Phlebotomist III: qualifications of Phlebotomist II plus ASCP certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens.
• Mentor students and new employees.

Job Summary

Join our team at Geisinger Medical Laboratories. As a Phlebotomist, you will collect and procure blood and human specimens in a clinical setting, collaborating with clinical counterparts to provide a safe environment that promotes the best possible outcomes for patients.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
• Demonstrate expertise in patient identification, specimen collection, labeling, accessioning, and processing.
• Apply strong problem‑solving skills and understand criteria for specimen acceptability and rejection.
• Function effectively in a team environment and work under the leadership of senior laboratory staff.
• Use critical thinking to adapt to changing work conditions and work independently in all care areas.
• Collect specimens in Acute, Post‑acute, Clinic and Field Service areas as needed.
• Mentor students and new employees.
• Perform inventory management as directed by site or regional lead.
• Complete initial and annual competency assessments via the Learning Management System.
• Assist with continuous improvement projects, root‑cause analyses, and other investigative processes.
• Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomist I: less than 1 year of experience.
• Phlebotomist II: 1–2 years of experience or completion of Geisinger’s School of Phlebotomy Program.
• Phlebotomist III: qualifications of Phlebotomist II plus ASCP certification and internal preceptor course.
• Experience as a Nursing Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or similar roles considered.
• Military experience (e.g., US Army 68W Combat Medic, Navy Hospital Corpsman) considered.

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required.

Experience

• Related work experience – Required.

Certifications and Licenses

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
