Qualifications

  • Phlebotomist I: Less than 1 year of experience.
  • Phlebotomist II: 1–2 years of experience or graduate from Geisinger School of Phlebotomy Program.
  • Phlebotomist III: ASCP certification and completion of Internal Preceptor course.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience.
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician – ASCP.
  • Military experience considered.

  • Function effectively in a team environment.

  • Complete competency as required in LMS and exams.

Responsibilities
  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures per CLSI guidelines.
  • Demonstrate expertise in patient identification, specimen collection, labeling, accessioning, and processing.
  • Exhibit strong problem solving skills.
  • Understand criteria for specimen acceptability and rejection.
  • Function effectively in a team environment.
  • Work under the leadership of a Phlebotomist III, Preanalytical Specialist, Team Lead, Supervisor, or other Laboratory Leader and escate issues as needed.
  • Possess critical thinking skills to adjust to changing work conditions.
  • Carry out responsibilities independently and accountably in all assigned care areas.
  • Function as an autonomous end user of relevant Geisinger business applications and tools.
  • Perform specimen collection in Acute, Post‑acute, Clinic, and Field Service areas as needed.
  • Mentor students and new employees.
  • Conduct yourself in alignment with core values and competencies.
  • Manage inventory as required and directed by site or regional lead.
  • Complete initial and annual competency through the Learning Management System, including exams and direct observation checklists.
  • Foster a collaborative approach to patient care with effective communication, teamwork, accountability, judgment, and decision making.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives such as root cause analyses and investigative processes.
  • Work in a clinical environment and comply with all organization policies and procedures.
Qualifications

  • Phlebotomist III: Qualifications of Phlebotomist II plus ASCP certification and completion of the Internal Preceptor course.

  • Minimum of 2 years related work experience.
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Military experience (e.g., Army 68W, Navy Hospital Corpsman) considered.
