Job Summary
Join our team at Geisinger Medical Laboratories where your passion for caring and innovation meets state‑of‑the‑art lab services. This full‑time role is an evening shift at Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC), scheduled 40 hours per week. Eligible candidates may qualify for a $5,000 sign‑on bonus and new shift differentials.
Responsibilities
- Collect and procure blood and human specimens in the clinical setting, performing venipunctures and skin punctures according to CLSI guidelines.
- Identify patients, label specimens, accession, and process them while ensuring specimen acceptability and rejection criteria are met.
- Collaborate with clinical counterparts to maintain a safe environment that promotes optimal patient outcomes.
- Work under the guidance of Phlebotomist III, Preanalytical Specialist, Team Lead, Supervisor, or other laboratory leaders, escalating issues as needed.
- Mentor students and new employees, and perform continuous‑improvement activities such as root‑cause analyses.
- Manage inventory as directed by site or regional lead and complete required competency exams annually through the Learning Management System.
- Serve as an autonomous end user of Geisinger business applications and tools across Acute, Post‑acute, Clinic, and Field Service areas.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) – required.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience in a clinical setting (e.g., nursing assistant, certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, certified medical assistant).
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred.
- Experience levels: Phlebotomist I (<1 year), Phlebotomist II (1–2 years or graduate of Geisinger’s School of Phlebotomy Program), Phlebotomist III (qualifications of Phlebotomist II plus ASCP certification and internal preceptor course).
- Military medical experience (e.g., US Army 68W Combat Medic, 18D, US Navy Hospital Corpsman) will be considered.
