Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Phlebotomist II to join their Medical Laboratories. In this role, you will provide safe and accurate specimen collection and processing to support laboratory testing and patient care. Responsibilities include performing venipunctures, processing blood specimens, and communicating with patients.

Job Summary

Join Geisinger Medical Laboratories as a Phlebotomist II. Provide safe, accurate specimen collection and processing to support high‑quality laboratory testing and patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures on all age groups, from neonates through adults, following Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
  • Obtain and process blood specimens for analysis, ensuring proper labeling, accessioning, and transport.
  • Use computer systems to register patients, assist with billing, and maintain accurate specimen records.
  • Communicate with patients to explain procedures and provide a comforting attitude.
  • Detect and resolve specimen identification or processing discrepancies.
  • Conduct routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control for point‑of‑care devices.
  • Replenish reagents and supplies according to established protocols.
  • Provide phlebotomy coverage at medical group offices, skilled nursing facilities, and home‑bound patients as required.
  • Pass initial and subsequent competency examinations.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Related work experience (required).
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) (required).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Military medical experience (Combat Medic, Hospital Corpsman, etc.) considered an advantage.
