Location & Schedule
Location: Geisinger Office Building II (GOB II). Shift: Days (United States of America). Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40. Worker type: Regular. Exemption status: No.
Salary & Incentives
Salary commensurate with experience. Position qualifies for a $5,000 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates.
Job Duties
- Responsible for collection and procurement of blood and human specimens in clinical and non‑clinical settings.
- Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to CLSI guidelines.
- Demonstrate competency in patient identification, specimen collection, labeling, accessioning, and processing.
- Apply strong problem‑solving skills and understand specimen acceptability and rejection criteria.
- Function effectively in a team environment and work under the leadership of Phlebotomist III, Pre‑analytical Specialist, Team Lead, Supervisor, or other laboratory leader, escalating issues accordingly.
- Carry the mobile phlebotomy toolkit; ability to carry/lift 15 pounds.
- Collect specimens in Acute, Post‑acute, Clinic and Field Service areas as needed.
- Mentor students and new employees.
- Maintain inventory management as directed by site or regional lead.
- Complete initial and annual competency via Learning Management System including an exam and direct observation checklist.
- Assist with continuous improvement objectives including root‑cause analyses and other investigative processes.
- Driver license and clean driver record required; subject to annual driver record checks.
- Adhere to fleet maintenance policy and vehicle preventive maintenance schedules.
Qualifications & Certifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum of 2 years related work experience. Experienced in nursing assistant, certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, certified medical assistant, or related field will be considered.
- Military experience (US Army 68W Combat Medic, 18D, US Navy Hospital Corpsman, or related) will be considered.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician – American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to lift 15 pounds.
