Job description

Overview

The Retail Pharmacy Technician works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to fill prescriptions, assist patients, and perform other pharmacy service duties as required.

Qualifications

Certifications: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (PTCB) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB); Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) (NHA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Licensed Pharmacy Technician within 60 days of license application - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

Responsibilities

  1. Assist pharmacist under direct supervision in the provision of pharmaceutical care to all patients.
  2. Perform technical tasks such as filling, compounding, reconstitution, and labeling.
  3. Enter patient information accurately into pharmacy computer system, including, but not limited to, patient's address, phone number, allergies, and date of birth.
  4. Enter correct medication information, including medications, strength, route, number of refills, and physician name.
  5. Perform calculations needed for prescription input and dispensing.
  6. Correctly identify patient per protocol prior to dispensing medication.
  7. Offer patient counseling by a pharmacist prior to completing transaction.
  8. Prioritize work to fill prescriptions in order of importance.
  9. Initial Rx labels on all prescriptions.
  10. Follow department procedures for maintaining drug and supply inventory.
  11. Remove expired medications, rotate stock, and clean and organize assigned areas on a regular basis.
  12. Perform prescription returns and insurance reversals on a regular basis.
  13. Respond to phone call inquiries and walk-up service requests, resolving issues or redirecting them appropriately.
  14. Properly use department equipment including, but not limited to, point of sale equipment, pill counters, and vendor software.
  15. Perform select assigned tasks that may include specialized or advanced training and/or competency such as facilitating prior authorizations and advanced insurance/provider inquiries.
  16. Recommend/involve in implementation of efficiency or department initiatives.
  17. Participate in tasks related to quality assurance monitoring, data collection, and analysis.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $17.33 per hour - $28.07 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
