Job Details

The Retail Pharmacy Technician obtains new patients’ clinical and prescription plan coverage information, reviews new prescriptions, and/or prescription processing. This position is compliance-critical and requires specific responsibility for ensuring continual and proper compliance with all division, corporate, and regulatory requirements.

Location: Erie County Health Department - Cleveland, Ohio

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for creating a patient profile in the pharmacy information system.
• Enters necessary prescription plan information in the patient profile for processing and adjudicating prescriptions.
• Responsible for entering all new patient prescription information into the pharmacy information system.
• Addresses insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues by communicating with insurance providers, patients, and pharmacists. Participates in achieving business goals and metrics for the Ambulatory Pharmacy.
• Retrieves and prepares medication for pharmacist review and verification. Prepares inventory reports for pharmacist review to purchase.
• Submits, receives, and places inventory in stock.
• Answers inbound calls and triages calls appropriately based on their nature.
• Assists with reviews and handling of all adjudicated prescription claims to ensure proper reimbursement, co-pay, and financial accuracy; follows up on inappropriate claims as needed.
• Provides required information for therapeutic consults with patients to the Pharmacist.
• Intervenes with Pharmacy Benefit Manager Companies to resolve plan and patient-specific adjudication issues.
• Monitors and supplies ambulatory dispensing robotic technology.
• Participates in delivering medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients as part of the concierge prescription program. Performs related duties as assigned.

Education:

Typically requires a minimum of two (2) years of directly related, progressively responsible ambulatory pharmacy experience; a bachelor’s degree is preferred. Pharmacy technician certification from a national organization such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent is required. State pharmacy certification is acceptable if core competencies meet or exceed national standards.
