Job summary

Guilford County is seeking a skilled supervisor for the Plans and Permits Section within the Inspections Department. You will oversee residential and commercial permit issuance, inspections scheduling, and the release of certificates of compliance.

You will manage a team, recruit talent, and contribute to budgeting and reports. The ideal candidate has substantial office management, permitting, and zoning knowledge, with strong communication and training abilities.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED with 4 years permits/inspections experience and NC Building Inspector Level I certification.
• Supervisory/lead experience required; one year of supervisory experience may substitute for one year of permit experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversees day-to-day operations of Plans and Permits/Issuance, scheduling, and inspections tracking.
• Manages staff: Permit Supervisor, Commercial Permits Specialist, Permit Technicians.
• Hires and evaluates staff; conducts budget input for Permits Section.
• Plans training and certifications for staff and represents the section in meetings.
• Prepares monthly reports and supports budget discussions.
