Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Manager to oversee Produce, Fresh Meat, Dairy, and Bakery sections. You will ensure fresh stock, effective merchandising, and outstanding customer service in a fast-paced store environment.

The role requires a high school diploma and 2–3 years of retail clerk experience, with preferred prior lead or grocery store experience. You will train staff, manage schedules, and uphold sanitation standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures as outlined in the SOP manual.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as basic arithmetic and percentages.
• Ability to perform cash register functions and cash handling procedures.
• Understanding of safety policies and practices.
• Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
• Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Manage perishable departments including Produce, Fresh Meat, Packaged Meats, Dairy, Frozen Food, Bread, and Thaw and Sell Bakery products.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using provided guides and order plans.
• Train assigned associates in proper presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe handling of food.
• Assist in scheduling coverage and ensure adequate staffing levels.
• Record inventory levels and perishable markdowns; take corrective action as needed.
• Ensure sanitation standards and safety compliance across Perishable departments.
