Job summary

Dollar General Corporation seeks a Perishable Department Manager to oversee Produce, Fresh Meat, Dairy, and Bakery areas. You will manage inventory, ensure attractive presentation, price integrity, and safe customer service in a fast-paced retail environment.

You will train associates, enforce food safety standards, and collaborate with Store Manager to schedule coverage and drive sales. Prior lead experience in grocery is preferred; high school diploma required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–3 years retail clerk experience; lead experience preferred.
• Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations and cash handling.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Perishable Departments including Produce, Fresh Meat, Packaged Meats, Dairy, Frozen Food, Bread, and Bakery thaw/sell processes.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using production and ordering tools.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness, pricing standards, and safe handling of perishable foods.
• Ensure accurate inventory records and adherence to sanitation standards.
• Assist Store Manager with scheduling coverage and monitor performance of staff.
• Record perishable markdowns and analyze root causes to prevent recurrences.
