Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Manager to oversee Produce, Fresh Meat, Dairy, Bakery, and Frozen departments. You will manage stock levels, drive profitability through effective presentation, and ensure quality customer service.

Responsibilities include training staff on freshness, pricing, and safe food handling, coordinating with store leadership on scheduling, and maintaining sanitation standards across all perishable areas.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two to three years of retail clerk experience.
• Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.
• Attainment of local/state food handling certifications, if applicable.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations and basic cash handling.

Responsibilities

• Manage Perishable Departments including Produce, Fresh Meat, Dairy, and Bakery areas.
• Maintain correct stock levels using ads, planners and order guides; ensure inventory accuracy.
• Train associates in presentation, freshness, pricing and safe handling of food.
• Support store leadership with scheduling coverage and performance follow-up.
• Record markdowns, analyze causes and implement corrective actions; manage perishables rotation.
• Ensure sanitation standards compliance and proper stocking of perishables.
