Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Manager to oversee Produce, Fresh Meat, Packaged Meats, Dairy, Frozen, Bread, and Bakery items. You will manage inventory, merchandising, and customer service while safeguarding assets and ensuring regulatory compliance.

You will train associates, optimize stock levels, and coordinate scheduling with leadership to maintain store standards. Previous lead experience and food-handling certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform math calculations such as add/subtract with accuracy.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and deposit controls.
• Ability to operate cash registers and process transactions.
• Understanding and application of safety policies and practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication with customers and team.
• Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
• Willingness to obtain required local/state food handling certifications.
• Two to three years of retail clerk experience with leadership exposure.

Responsibilities

• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using perishable planning tools.
• Assist in production ads/planners and order guides for perishables.
• Lead training for associates in presentation, freshness, and pricing standards.
• Ensure proper and safe handling of food per regulations.
• Schedule coverage in partnership with Store Manager.
• Record perishable markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Oversee perishable inventory accuracy and sanitation standards.
