Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department lead to manage produce, meat, dairy, frozen foods, bakery items, and related operations. The role supports the Store Manager in inventory, merchandising, and customer service to drive profitability and safety.

Responsibilities include maintaining stock levels, training staff on freshness and pricing, and ensuring compliance with food handling regulations, while fostering a customer-focused store environment.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform math calculations including percentages.
• Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
• Ability to review statements and identify trends, expenses, shrink and errors.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposits.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and presentation guidance.
• Ability to obtain required certifications in food handling.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in maintaining financial integrity with cash accountability and safety practices.
• Follow SOPs, Employee Handbook, and company communications.
• Assist with staff compliance and training in perishable areas.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels using ads, planners, and order guides.
• Train associates in product freshness, presentation, and pricing standards.
• Ensure safe handling of food and adherence to regulations.
• Record perishable markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
• Address customer needs and requests efficiently.
• Maintain sanitation standards and train associates in Perishable departments.
• Assist with other operational areas as directed.
