Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the perioperative team as a first, second, or assisting technician or second circulator under RN supervision. The role emphasizes asepsis, patient care, and coordination with surgeons and OR personnel.

The position involves scrubbing basic procedures, preparing trays and supplies, documenting patient information, and assisting with cross-department communication.

Qualifications

• Must be able to scrub basic surgical procedures and maintain aseptic technique.
• Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology as it relates to perioperative care.
• Collaborates with surgeons and OR team to ensure sterile, ready-to-use supplies for each procedure.

Responsibilities

• Maintains asepsis and sterile environment during procedures.
• Assists with organization of supplies and equipment for cost-effective department operation.
• Communicates with nursing staff about tests, exams or problems with patients.
• Collects data on assigned patients and documents accurately in records.
• Transcribes orders and schedules appointments and tests as directed.
• Prepares patients for transport and assists with activities of daily living.
• Keeps log of admissions, discharges, transfers and patient charges.
• Assists with supply ordering, inventory control and room turnover.
• Collaborates with surgeons to ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready.
