Job summary

Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a Clinic Operations Representative in the Primary Care/ARC area to provide patient services and administrative support in clinic operations.

You will interact with parents, patients, physicians and staff, handling scheduling, registration, billing verification, insurance eligibility, and data accuracy while delivering courteous service. This role may float to other clinics to cover coverage needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 1 year of billing, patient registration, scheduling and insurance verification experience.
• Broad clinic knowledge and strong customer service skills.
• Computer knowledge and MS Office experience preferred.
• Complete Ambulatory Services training and pass competency assessments, including a mock clinic.
• Type at least 35 words per minute.

Responsibilities

• Schedule patients accurately using the department system and update registrations professionally.
• Collect and verify demographic and insurance information; ensure HIPAA compliance.
• Notify families of referrals/pre-authorizations and manage insurance eligibility checks.
• Reschedule appointments for no-shows or cancellations and assist with follow-up bookings.
• Greet patients/parents, obtain consents, and handle insurance cards and IDs for records.
• Respond to patient portal requests and process inquiries with courtesy and accuracy.
• Verify pre-authorizations/referrals and use systems to keep patient data in sync.
• Handle cash collections, co-pays, and deposits; support billing preparation.
• Provide general office support: calls, mail, and document distribution.
• Maintain a safe and compliant clinic environment and communicate clearly.
