Job summary

GBMC HealthCare is seeking a patient services specialist to greet visitors and answer calls in a busy office setting. You will guide patients through scheduling, data entry, and insurance verification to ensure smooth visits.

Responsibilities include MyChart registration, handling referrals, and coordinating with multiple providers while maintaining accuracy and compassion in every interaction.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• At least 6 months of related experience.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to perform non-complex arithmetic and handle multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment.

Responsibilities

• Receive and screen visitors and telephone calls, relaying information per established policies.
• Schedule patient appointments and perform data entry of demographic information and insurance.
• Verify insurance information and obtain referrals as needed prior to visits.
• Assist patients with registering for MyChart.
• Manage a high volume of telephone calls and route encounters to providers for review.
• Check in patients, verify insurance, collect and scan IDs and insurance cards.
• Manage referral work queues and attach referrals to appointments.
• Process incoming faxes and route results and correspondence to the appropriate staff.
• Scan incoming medical records to the patient’s MRN.
• Address and respond to In basket messages from patients and providers.
• Close out In Basket messages daily.
• Obtain referrals and preauthorization for procedures by contacting insurers.
• Other duties as assigned.
