Job summary

Mercy Medical Center - Cedar Rapids is seeking a Registration Clerk to initiate and complete patient registrations, verify information, and coordinate with insurance for admission certification. The role supports the Mercy Touch through courteous interactions with patients, families, and staff.

A minimum of one year in admission processing is required, with preference for EPIC software experience. Strong communication, discretion, and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year admission processing within Mercy Medical Center required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred knowledge of EPIC software.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with minimal to no supervision.

Responsibilities

• Initiates the patient record by interviewing patients or a representative.
• Ensures the registration is complete and initiates follow-up if needed.
• Contacts insurance companies to obtain admission certification when required.
• Maintains awareness of potential emergencies and alerts appropriate staff.
• Performs preregistration of patients when possible.
• Covers for the Night Operator when needed.
• Participates in training new Registrars; supports new staff orientation.
• Attends staff meetings regularly.
• Handles confidential information with discretion and diplomacy.
