Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Patient Financial Access Counselor to coordinate patient accounts from initial contact through resolution. The role involves explaining benefits, guiding self-pay/underinsured patients through assistance programs, and working with Care Management to ensure timely, compliant outcomes.

Ideal candidates will have 3–4 years in patient access, CHAA/CRCS certification within 18 months, and strong computer skills with EPIC/eligibility systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or more in a customer service environment preferred.
• Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) or Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) required within 18 months of hire.
• Three to four years of experience in Access at Yale New Haven Hospital or similar environment with strong customer service and third-party insurance background.
• Strong knowledge of all Access areas and ability to resolve complex patient account issues in a timely fashion.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates patient account activities from initial contact through account resolution, ensuring demographic and insurance information is accurate.
• Provides financial counseling to self-pay and underinsured patients, guiding them through state/federal programs and hospital aid options.
• Promotes customer service excellence and navigates the medical assistance application process with care management teams.
• Uses EPIC, On-line Eligibility, One Source and other systems to manage daily operations and improve efficiency.
