Job summary

MyMichigan Health is seeking a Patient Service Assistant to provide clerical, receptionist and front-desk support for the practice, coordinating patient flow, answering calls, and registering patients with courtesy and professionalism.

You will verify insurance, schedule appointments, collect copays, process referrals, and help with tests as needed, while maintaining HIPAA compliance and accurate records. The role emphasizes strong customer service for a diverse patient population.

Qualifications

• Reading, writing, mathematical and computer skills.
• Keyboarding skills needed to register patients and other office tasks.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, medical office policies, practices and procedures as normally acquired through two (2) years working in a medical office or similar setting
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Responsibilities

• Provide front-line clerical, receptionist, and scheduling support for the practice.
• Acknowledge and welcome patients; greet visitors and answer incoming calls.
• Verify insurance information, update demographics, and collect payments.
• Schedule patient appointments using practice management and EMR systems.
• Register new patients and explain policies, including no-show, financial and collection policies; obtain emails when available.
• Coordinate referrals, tests, and prior authorizations; ensure smooth patient flow and checkout.
