Job summary

The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Patient Coordinator I to greet patients, verify demographics and insurance, and ensure records are ready for the physician. You may work in a call center capacity for Faculty Practice Associates and coordinate insurance processes to support smooth visits.

Responsibilities include updating patient information, verifying coverage, handling HIPAA paperwork, collecting co-pays, scheduling follow-ups, and assisting with referrals and authorizations as needed.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year physician practice experience.
• On-site training of at least one week will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients in person or by phone and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
• Ensure physician accepts the insurance presented; verify before or at arrival.
• Communicate with staff about patient arrival; ensure medical records are available.
• Process/update HIPAA-related paperwork and institutional forms as necessary.
• Collect referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
• Monitor waiting room status and keep patients informed about wait times.
• Collect or confirm co-pays; provide receipts following cash-control procedures.
• May schedule follow-up appointments and provide guidance for medical records requests.
• May perform simple charge entry or enter payments and prepare cash deposits.
• Performs in a call center capacity for Faculty Practice Associates.
• Answer phones and schedule appointments.
• Follow HIPAA and other PHI handling requirements.
• May initiate reminder calls for next day appointments.
