Job summary

Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a dedicated Patient Access/Insurance Specialist to verify insurance details, deductibles, and co-pays while supporting scheduling and registration inquiries. You will assist patients via phone or online, document in EMR systems, and coordinate appointments across providers using a patient-centered approach.

Responsibilities include handling calls, routing messages, maintaining accurate patient accounts, and ensuring smooth clinic operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum required education is a high school diploma.
• Minimum required experience is 1 year of customer service.
• Preferred experience in a healthcare environment with emphasis on insurance knowledge and patient contact.

Responsibilities

• Verify insurance information, deductibles, and co-pay requirements for clinic services and document in triage software.
• Answer incoming calls, take messages and route to appropriate area.
• Document in electronic medical records and other essential software tools.
• Diffuse irate customers and resolve concerns with professional public relations.
• Maintain knowledge of MCW scheduling and billing systems (IDX, Epic).
• Coordinate multiple appointments for various providers using a patient-centric scheduling model.
• Triage complex inquiries to senior staff as appropriate.
• Perform clerical tasks such as maintaining patient accounts, data entry and filing.
• Develop understanding of MCW locations and affiliate facilities and navigate buildings.
• Access information from tables/lists and provide accurate information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
