Job summary

Advocate Health in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a Nursing Assistant to support daily patient care, including hygiene, feeding and mobility. You will document data in the EMR, participate in admissions and discharges, and coordinate with RN staff to ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry where the team member practices.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within 45 days of hire.
• Basic computer skills.
• Excellent oral and written communications.
• Excellent organizational and priority-setting abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability to interruptions and changing workloads.

Responsibilities

• Assists RN with daily patient care including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders and ambulation with assistive devices when indicated.
• Documents vital signs, intake/output, daily weights and other data in EMR.
• Participates in admission, transfer and discharge processes under RN supervision and manages room setup and patient belongings.
• Performs rounding and communicates observations to RN, assisting with patient positioning and transfers.
• Cares for nutritional needs and diet planning under RN direction, maintains skin integrity and uses TED hose and sequential compression devices as required.
• Collects specimens and performs point-of-care testing per approved process; may assist with IV removal and post-mortem care as required.
• Maintains infection prevention practices, hand hygiene, sterile techniques and proper disposal of contaminated materials.
• Coordinates tests and treatments with other departments and maintains knowledge of EHR and ordering systems.
• Handles communications and paging to support patient care and resolves minor equipment issues.
• Prepares charts for admissions/transfers/discharges and ensures proper medical record documentation for demographics and level of care.
• Establishes positive customer relations, responds promptly to requests and demonstrates professional phone etiquette and team communication.
• Demonstrates age-specific care considerations and adapts care to the patient’s growth and development as described in department standards.
