Job summary

University of Southern California (USC) seeks a Support Coordinator to manage patient scheduling, registration, and insurance verification in the Keck Hospital outpatient clinic. You will greet patients, coordinate referrals, prepare charts, and assist the care team across the clinic.

Strong English communication and medical terminology knowledge are required. Responsibilities include coordinating surgeries/diagnostic tests, handling translations when needed, and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Req High school or equivalent.
• Pref Bachelor's degree.
• Equivalent work experience in customer service and/or medical office.
• Pref 1 year experience in acute care, ambulatory care, or surgical center setting.
• Req Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Pref Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Pref Familiarity with word processing, IDX, Cerner, PBAR and scheduling software.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients in a courteous and professional manner.
• Adheres to protect patient confidentiality.
• Process new referrals in a timely manner; obtain outside records, enter data, provide insurance information, and schedule patient in clinic.
• Schedules diagnostic testing in a timely manner and coordinates with patient needs.
• Notifies patient of upcoming appointments and communicates changes to involved personnel.
• Preps charts for diagnostic testing and assists in translation as needed.
• Provides phone coverage and supports other staff as needed.
• Works independently and in a team setting to accomplish duties.
