Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs seeks an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) to provide administrative support within Community Care Service.

The AMSA acts as liaison among patients, nursing staff, medical staff, and external providers to ensure smooth outpatient processes across VA Health Care Systems. The position emphasizes coordination of clinic utilization, patient communication, and support for the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency certificate or proficiency certificate from a State or territorial-level Board or Department of Education
• English Language Proficiency: must be proficient in spoken and written English

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with clinical team to review clinic utilization and adjust the clinic setup to support patient care
• Assist with communications during inpatient to outpatient discharge
• Communicate with non-VA medical facilities by fax and secure messaging with patients and teams
• Schedule, cancel, or reschedule patient appointments and consults; enter no-show information
• Monitor appointment requests from multiple electronic sources and participate in team huddles
• Manage and prioritize work flow to meet team and patient needs and deadlines
