Job summary

Optum is seeking an Associate Patient Care Coordinator in Syosset, NY to greet patients, collect registrations, verify insurance and schedule appointments. You’ll work with the care team to support smooth patient flow and accurate records in Epic.

The role requires strong customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to manage a dynamic daily schedule while upholding security policies and patient confidentiality. This is a full-time, on-site position with occasional late shifts.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year of customer service or healthcare-related experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients, family members and guests with a friendly smile
• Assists patients with signing in and completing registration
• Enters and scans patient’s demographic and insurance information into Epic
• Verifies insurance eligibility and benefit information; informs patients of insurance benefits
• Collects co-payments and patient balances
• Scheduling appointments and procedures in an organized and efficient manner
• Answers incoming phone calls in a courteous and prompt manner; directs calls and takes messages
• Follow the Payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
• Ability to maintain a work queue list- complete any pending actions ie referrals, scheduling appointments
• Ability to maintain the in-basket messaging and work the daily DARs
• Check In and Check Out Patients
• Assists physician and clinical staff by coordinating follow up care for patients; schedules referral appointments for patients and obtains authorization for diagnostic testing
• Sends patient records to primary care physician
• Assists with other tasks as assigned
• Handle resolution/inquiries from members and/or clinical team
• Assist with onboarding new employees
• Responsible managing daily schedule
• Responsible for EPIC superuser status
• Ability to support all staff and leadership in their roles
• Ability to de‑escalate and resolve patient complaints
• Provide guidance / consultation to other team members
• Educate the team on the continuum of integrated care
• Performs all other related duties as assigned
