Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Access Team Leader to reflect our mission and values, oversee patient scheduling and registration, and ensure service excellence across departments. You will collaborate with physicians offices, verify insurance and authorizations, and maintain patient confidentiality.

The role requires strong communication, problem solving, and training of new staff, with daily responsibility for staffing decisions and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years experience in customer service or patient relations.
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Basic computer skills and ability to type 40 wpm.
• Epic experience preferred.
• Two - four years of progressive experience in a revenue cycle setting.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides exceptional customer service to consumers which establish a positive first impression of Northwestern Medicine.
• Exceed all consumer requests and alert management of issues or concerns that require escalation.
• Correctly identifies and collects patient demographic information in accordance with organization standards.
• Interacts with various hospital departments and physician offices to schedule and direct patients through NMHC systems.
• Reaches out to patients to schedule an appointment as defined.
• Performs medical necessity checks as necessary for scheduled services and communicates options to the patient if appointment fails.
• Facilitates the pre-authorization of diagnostic exams between referring physicians and insurance carriers.
• Delivers training and education as needed.
• Manages work schedule efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.
• Cross-training between departments may occur to ensure coverage.
• Participates in Quality Assurance reviews to ensure integrity of patient data information.
• Uses effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns.
• Provides information and resolves issues under NM policies and procedures.
