Job summary

Optum, in collaboration with Allina Health, is seeking a Patient Access Representative Associate to be the first point of contact for patients and visitors. You will verify demographics, insurance information, and assist with registrations and financial counseling at a busy Minneapolis site.

The role requires strong customer service, empathy, and the ability to navigate insurance processes. A 14-day rotating schedule and opportunities for growth are included.

Qualifications

• Greet and assist patients, families, and visitors with professionalism and compassion.
• Verify demographics, insurance, and guarantor information in the EMR.
• Education of patients regarding insurance benefits and financial responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist patients, families, and visitors in a professional and compassionate manner.
• Verify demographic, insurance, and guarantor information, and document it in the electronical medical record (EMR).
• Obtain required documentation, signatures, and consent forms.
• Assist with scheduling add-on or follow-up appointments as needed.
• Assist patients in completing forms and requests for information and route documentation to the appropriate department.
• Provide wayfinding assistance and guide patients to the appropriate appointment, clinic location, or procedure area.
• Manage inbound and outbound telephone calls, ensuring prompt, professional and courteous service.
• Collaborate effectively with peers to manage complex registration scenarios, patient concerns, and customer service situations while ensuring a positive patient experience.
• Insurance Verification & Revenue Cycle Support: Verify insurance eligibility and benefits information; Collect copayments, deductibles, and other point-of-service payments; Educate patients regarding insurance benefits, estimated financial responsibility, financial assistance programs, and payment options; Screen patients for financial assistance eligibility and assist with application processes; Escalate complex billing or financial concerns as appropriate.
• Provide technical and functional guidance to team members as appropriate.
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies, patient privacy standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with clinical staff, providers, revenue cycle teams, and other departments to resolve registration-related issues.
• Contribute to departmental performance goals related to patient satisfaction, registration accuracy, productivity, point of service collections, and operational efficiency.
• Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring as required by business needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned
