Job summary

Geisinger Clinic seeks a patient access clerk to support front desk operations at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. You will greet and register patients, verify demographics and assist with the check-out process and appointment scheduling.

Responsibilities include verifying insurance, communicating financial responsibility, collecting fees, and coordinating follow-up visits while adhering to HIPAA and privacy guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required.
• Minimum of 1 year-related work experience – Preferred.
• Clerical, communication, customer service, confidentiality & office etiquette skills.

Responsibilities

• Check patients in for appointments and verify demographics accurately.
• Monitor patient wait times and communicate changes.
• Read and interpret insurance responses.
• Assign primary, secondary and tertiary insurance per encounter.
• Obtain necessary legal and financial signatures and disclose privacy information.
• Explain financial obligations and collect fees at time of service.
• Schedule follow-up appointments including specialty/ancillary services.
• Process multi-channel messages regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions and complaints.
• Notify patients or guarantors of anticipated financial responsibility and collect accordingly.
• Perform cash posting following department guidelines.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
• Independently manage work queues to resolve accounts in a timely manner.
• Maintain productivity and quality performance expectations.
• Ensure accurate medical record maintenance and releases.
• Support referrals and pre-certifications at the time of encounter.
