Northwestern Memorial Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to support patient scheduling and registration. The role emphasizes accurate data collection, HIPAA compliance, and delivering excellent customer service in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The position involves part-time rotating hours (8:30am-5:00pm and Saturday 6:30am-3:00pm), with benefits including tuition reimbursement, student loan repayment, and professional development opportunities. EOE.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 2-3 years customer service or medical office experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer data-entry/typing; ability to type 40 wpm.

Responsibilities

• Provides exceptional customer service to patients and fosters a positive first impression.
• Responds to questions and concerns and escalates issues as needed.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
• Interacts with hospital departments to schedule and direct patients in NMHC systems.
• Performs medical necessity checks and explains options when appointments fail.
• Completes out-of-pocket estimations as requested by patients.
• Cross-training between departments to ensure coverage.
• Participates in Quality Assurance reviews to ensure data integrity.
