Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a patient services/administrative role for our ambulatory care clinics in Central Massachusetts. The position involves greeting patients, verifying demographics and insurance, collecting co-pays, and obtaining consent for services.

The role requires handling calls, coordinating appointments across clinicians, and assisting with financial counseling and referrals as needed. Strong communication and professionalism are essential in a high-volume environment.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of related experience, unless candidate has an associate or bachelor’s degree.
• Ability to use specialized applications software and computer systems.
• Must be multifunctional and able to work under stressful situations.
• Professional behavior and excellent communication and human relations skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and office procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets visitors and/or patients for scheduled or urgent appointments and procedures.
• Confirms and verifies patient demographic and insurance information.
• May collect co-payments from patients upon arrival.
• Obtains signatures of consent for treatment authorization and insurance/billing information.
• Assesses patients’ needs, including financial counseling, interpreter services, and social services, and refers to appropriate area.
• Receives and directs phone calls and connects patient calls to providers or takes messages.
