Job summary

The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Patient Coordinator I to greet patients and verify demographics and insurance at first contact in a busy practice setting.

You will work at the front desk or in a call center capacity, ensuring accurate records, coordinating with staff, handling HIPAA paperwork, collecting co-pays, and scheduling follow-up visits as needed. This role requires on-site training and has potential to support patient flow efficiently.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year physician practice experience.
  • On-site training provided (minimum one week).
  • Experience in a medical office setting with scheduling systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
  • Verify insurance prior to visit or at arrival and confirm physician accepts the plan.
  • Communicate patient arrival status with staff and ensure medical records are ready.
  • Process HIPAA-related paperwork and other required forms.
  • Collect referrals or insurance authorizations as needed.
  • Monitor waiting room status and inform patients of wait times.
  • Collect co-pays and provide receipts per cash-control procedures.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments when appropriate.
  • Perform simple charge entry and record payments; prepare deposit.
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments in a call-center setting.
  • Comply with HIPAA and PHI handling requirements.
  • Initiate reminder calls for next-day appointments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
