Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System in New York is hiring a Patient Coordinator I to greet patients, verify insurance, and update demographics in the practice management system. The role may operate in person or in a call center capacity to ensure accurate patient records.

You will work with staff to confirm physician insurance acceptance, process HIPAA paperwork, collect co-pays, and help arrange referrals and follow-up appointments.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • At least 1 year physician practice experience.
  • On-site training of one week minimum will be provided.
  • Experience with IDX or other practice management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients in person or by phone and update insurance/demographics in the practice management system.
  • Verify that physician accepts the insurance presented and verify before arrival if needed.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure medical records are available for the physician.
  • Process HIPAA-related paperwork and other institutional forms.
  • Obtain referrals or insurance authorizations as required.
  • Monitor waiting room status and inform patients about wait times.
  • Collect or confirm co-pays and provide receipts per cash-control procedures.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments when needed and guide patients on how to request medical records.
  • May perform simple charge entry or enter payments and prepare deposits.
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments; may work in a call center capacity.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance for PHI handling.
  • May initiate reminder calls for next-day appointments.
  • Perform other related duties.
